ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY

Endoscopic sinus surgery (sometimes called functional endoscopic sinus surgery, or FESS) has been the standard of care for sinusitis that has failed to respond to appropriate medical therapy. Unlike traditional sinus surgery, ESS is performed through the nostrils, without any incisions on the face or mouth.

Approximately 20% of patients with chronic sinusitis will fail medical treatment and require ESS. In these patients, ESS becomes perhaps the most important first step in the long-term management of this otherwise debilitating chronic condition.
