LOSS OF SMELL
Anosmia (loss of smell) and hyposmia (decreased sense of smell) are issues that can severely impact one's quality of life. In most cases, decreased sense of smell is related to inflammation of the nose or sinuses (e.g., chronic sinusitis), and can potentially be restored with appropriate treatment. Sometimes, loss of smell can be a symptom of a more concerning process. Complete loss of smell, moreover, can become a matter of personal safety, since patients often cannot smell smoke or spoiled foods.
